Even faster internet: ADSL2+ explained

Over time, Internet users inevitably want a faster connection to the internet. As technology advances, users look for more services & more convenience from their Internet Service Provider (ISP). With faster downloads and uploads, over even greater distances, as far as internet connections go, ADSL2+ is “the new black.

Why use ADSL2+?

Most internet service providers (ISPs) are offering ADSL2+ now because of its many advantages over ADSL - a logical move towards a much better internet connection.

The most obvious reasons for switching to ADSL2+ is the speed it offers with uploads and downloads, but there are some other reasons that make ADSL2+ a good choice too (if the service is available in your area):

• Greater volume of uploads and downloads
• Those unable to access ADSL due to distance can often get ADSL2+
• ADSL2+ enhances and extends the capability of ADSL

ADSL2+ doubles the number of downstream bits and because it doubles the frequency band of ADSL connections, the data rates of ADSL (and ADSL2 standard, even) are doubled.

Further advantages of ADSL2+

Another function with ADSL2+ is that it allows multiple ports to be bonded where the total bandwidth is equal to that of all the available ports. This is a great advantage for multiple users.

How to get ADSL2+

If your telephone exchange has an active ADSL2+ provider, you’re in luck, and if your line is capable of ADSL2+ you will be able to access it. Your local exchange would need to have a Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) installed by an internet service provider.
