How to choose an ADSL2+ plan

Looking for fast internet? The latest in superfast internet connections, ADSL2+, can give you download speeds up to 350 times faster than standard dial-up, and around 78 times faster than ADSL. If you want to download the latest movie, play games, check your bank account, and operate your home business, ADSL2+ is an excellent option. Selecting the right ADSL2+ Broadband provider involves a little time and consideration, but is not difficult.

Can I connect to ADSL2+?

There's a good chance that you can connect your home computer to ADSL2+ Broadband. You need to check that your local telephone exchange has an active ADSL provider, and that your telephone line can support ADSL2+.

The speed of your Broadband connection will depend on a number of factors, such as the distance between your home and the local telephone exchange, the number of breaks or connections in the line, the physical quality or the copper lines which make up your phone line and even the number of users on the line.

You will also need to have computers capable of handing the pure speed of the ADSL2+ connection.

Selecting the right ADSL2+ plan

It pays to take your time and research your ADSL2+ Broadband provider. Look for these things:

  • Download limits - you need more than you think! A few movies, a few hours of 'net surfing' and chatting with friends, and your allowable downloads can be gone, particularly if you download music or videos
  • Always look at customer reviews. Are the advertised speeds really achievable? Most providers boast download speeds of up to 24mbit/s (megabit/second), while generally achieving speeds of 6 - 10 mbit/s
  • What is the customer and tech support like? Can you contact a real person in case of a problem?
  • Always go for a shaped plan, never one charging extra once you go over your download limit. You'd be horrified at how quickly your internet bill can grow!

Which ADSL2+ Broadband Plan?

While the endless advertising and huge number of Internet ADSL2+ providers may seem confusing, choosing the right Broadband plan for your home simply takes a little time and research. Use your existing internet connection to find sites comparing providers, talk to friends and compare the offerings. You won't regret spending the extra time to choose the right ADSL2+ Broadband provider.
